Who we are...
Headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan, WALID, Inc. was established in 1999 to provide a complete solution for registering and resolving multilingual Internet domain names. The WALID technology enables businesses, organizations, and individuals to communicate, conduct global commerce and establish a unique Internet presence in any language.
Why we're here...
An estimated 48 percent of Internet users communicate in a language other than English. According to recent statistics, between 20 and 30 percent of all content on the Web is non-English. However, until recently, users were required to access these sites using English-only domain names. For most non-English names, the required translation --and often transliteration--made the resulting names extremely complicated to use. Over time, this problem will only become more pressing. Within five years, according to projections by the Computer Industry Almanac, 70 percent of the online population will be found outside North America and Europe. In addition, the International Data Corporation estimates that foreign share of e-commerce will reach 56 percent by 2003.
What we do...
WALID creates technologies that enable the true internationalization of the Internet. We believe we have achieved this goal with the registration and use of multilingual domain names. WALID, Inc. is forging partnerships around the world with Internet Service Providers, government bodies and Internet authorities to distribute the WALID technology to the widest possible user base. In parallel, we are taking every step to increase the awareness and possible adoption of our technology by the relevant standard bodies.
Why Choose WALID?
The result of over two years of extensive research, the WALID technology provides the most comprehensive, scalable, efficient and compatible solution on the market. Our technology is totally transparent to the user, is compatible with DNS related standards and does not require any modifications to the existing Internet infrastructure. By working within the existing Internet system and preserving compatibility with its standards, our technology maintains minimum impact while providing the best solution to this long-sought capability.
